Nominating
the Wolf Cave on the World Heritage list of Unesco
The Wolf Cave is a unique
object with the oldest traces of human life in the Nordic countries
and is therefore worth the value of a World Heritage.
Kristinestad has started the preparations to get the site added to
the World Heritage List.
The process takes many years and different criteria have to be
fulfilled. The most important thing is that the protection of the
ancient remain, its authenticity and surroundings is guaranteed. In
the first place the municipality is going to negotiate with the
landowners for an exchange and after that for selling the forest
area around the Wolf Cave. When the boundaries of the ancient remain
and its protection area have been appointed, the National Board of
Antiquities will take measures to get the Wolf Cave added to
Unesco’s World Heritage List.
